An Enrolled Agent is a licensed tax practitioner who is an expert in all areas of taxation, they represent taxpayers before the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) regarding any tax issues, audits, and other tax-related matters.
The Enrolled Agent course has 3 parts and one paper under each part. After passing the first exam, the candidate should complete the other two exams within the next 2 years.
A candidate should be at least 18 years old and should have completed their 12th standard education. A specified degree is not required to enroll for the EA course.
The part 2 of the Enrolled Agent exam is said to be difficult when compared to the other 2 parts.
Each paper in the EA exam can be taken four times per testing window.
Once after completing the first exam, the rest of the exams should be completed within the next 2 years.
The Preparer Tax Identification Number (PTIN) is the number issued to the paid tax return preparers by the IRS. It must be used in the paid preparer section of a tax return.
The Enrolled Agent exam follows 100 MCQs in each paper, the exam duration is about 3.5 hours and students can take a break of 15 minutes after completing the first section (50 MCQs). And the results are announced right after completing the exam and students can download their results instantly.
You need to pay an amount of USD 259 for each part of the EA examination.
The candidate must score a minimum of 105 in a total of marks of 130 to be considered a pass.
